In 1995, I graduated from the Maryland Institute, College of Art with a BFA in Illustration and a portfolio of figure paintings. I spent my first year out of school freelancing and finding creative work in various industries. Most of the work I did was very traditional - TRANSLATION - we used paper, canvas, a camera and a printer. While I enjoyed doing traditional work, I was searching for new opportunities. After hearing about an artist position in the game industry, I submitted my resume and portfolio to a small studio in North Carolina. A few months later, I got my first job as a digital artist at Microprose Software. The transition from traditional media to digital software was an exciting new challenge and helped me to grow tremendously as an artist. Over the years, I have done game concept art, high and low poly models, textures, sprites, animation, effects, interface art and illustration. During the last five years of my career, however, I have gravitated towards character art which interests me because it relates directly to figurative painting and portraiture. I look to artists like Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, Wayne Thiebaud and Francesco Clemente for inspiration in my personal work and have a lot of respect for concept artists like Andrew Jones.

I hope the game industry continues to grow in a positive direction that inspires artists to be creative and push the limits of their medium. With newer digital tools finally providing artists the ability to truly realize their vision, I think the next ten years could be even more exciting than the last.
